Which is better, learning English by English Teacher or Native Speaker?
When we talk about learning, we should know what is the definition of learning. According to Douglas Brown, Learning is aquiring or getting of knowledge of a subject or a skill by study, experience or instruction. It’s mean learning is an experience process or accepting or acquiring knowledge of a subject or a skill by study or exercices . There were four basic skills in learning English activities, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. If we want to master English, we should master all of that skill.
In indonesia, English is taught from elementary school up to university. Basically, there are two ways in learning English, first is learning english in classroom and the second is learning acquisition. And the question is, which one is better learning English by English teacher or by native speaker. Here, I will try to give my opinion about that question.
First is learning English in the classroom. When the leaners learn English in the class, they were taught by an English teacher. Obviously they realize and aware that they learn English and want to master it. When learning english in the classroom, the english teachers already give the learner four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Even though the English teachers were not come from the country that use English as the first language, they are already master English well and competence in their field. Consequently, they can teach English clearly and make the learner mastering English well with those four basic skills.
Second is learning acquisition. In learning acquisition they were learnt English by native speakers. In this case, people who learn English were not realize that they learn English. For example, the babies who live at least 5 years in the country that use English as the daily language can speak English fluently. Even though their parents didn’t come from the country that use English as the first language. They can speak English fluently because their environment were support them to use English, but in here they were not give all of skill in learning English. They just learn to listening and speaking English. They didn’t have ability to read or write English yet. If they want to do that they should go to school to get all of that skill.
From the description above it can be concluded that learning English by English teachers is better than learning English by native speakers. It is caused the English teachers have the capability to teach all of the skill (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in learning English. Consequently, the learners could speak English well although they never met the native speakers.
